Explanation:

These are the reasons why we do not see many joint families in India any more.. Nobody wants to adjust, not only youngsters but elders too. Earlier it was easy because the girls didn't go out for work so automatically they helped in the house work and mil felt little freed from work.

But now it is different, either the girls do not know house work, or cooking or do not do, or some work in offices outside as most are well educated. Sorry to say, but many are brought up royally by their parents and so find it difficult to do any house work. A lot of their time goes for the smart phone besides visits to parlours, shopping and other places, being young ladies.

Seniors on the other hand are not energetic like before. Some also have age related ailments like diabetes, high BP, arthritis etc. These do not let them give a 24 hrs helping hand to their adult children.

Some girls work late hours too and are invariably too tired. Many demand a maid, cook and laundry person. This makes two extra full time maids in the house, taking up space, time and likes of the kitchen in a simple, free family .

So the work burden increases for the old mother. At this age she wants little rest with menopause and age related problems. And expenses for the old father increase too.

Besides this they are also forced to take care of grand children, run the house, supervise servants, pay bills on time etc, while the younger couple has no responsibilities. Instead of rest, work seems to increase for the seniors.

Even on extended weekends instead of staying with parents or giving them a holiday from the routine house work the younger couple goes on a holiday leaving them behind like caretakers. Many feel unwanted and taken advantage of. They too want to relax mentally and physically by going on tours to places of interest. They feel they are being used and it is thankless job. Hence the elders also want their married children to move into nuclear families and manage their houses and children on their own.

Add to this the frequent misunderstandings that crop up due to familiarity and due to other’s instigation.. Between mil - dil, Mother- son, father - son.
