Answer:

Media, as an industry does hype certain issues, blows them out of proportion and also downplays many important matters and sweep them under the carpet- due to economic or political reasons.

The same headlines, photos and video footage flashing across our television screens for hours together is definitely jarring and sometimes, the kind of comments made are in very poor taste.

However, broadcast media has become more susceptible to urge of gaining more TRPs through heated debate and drama. However, print media, consisting of newspapers and magazines still contain pieces of excellent investigative journalism and news reporting.

Again, you must have come across front pages of newspapers marred with commercial advertisements for it is a big source of revenue for them.

However, in spite of all this, I strongly feel that Indian media does play an integral role in mobilizing our society towards the truth and justice. There are numerous examples- the Jessica Lal murder case was reopened due to the media, the nation wide protests demanding justice for Nirbhaya was triggered and fuelled by the media and now, very recently, media, especially Indian news channels stood by Varnika Kundu and demanded justice for her.

Also, digital and social media becoming popular by the day, we are living in an era where everything is lightning fast- we get news updates within minutes. People complain that there are high chances of fake news, especially when its social media.

Every form of media has its drawbacks, but the positive effects it has had on India as a country is tremendous and does outweigh its shortcomings.
