" On January 21st each year the sun reaches its northernmost declination of about 23.5 degrees. The people in the Northern hemisphere experience longer days, the sun rises earlier and sets later than its usual time.

During the month of December, the reverse happens. December 23rd which is regarded as the Winter Solstice is known to be the longest night and shortest day. The  sun rises later and sets earlier during this time in the Northern Hemisphere.
