Some of the activities which maybe Polluting the water sources are:
1. From sewage:
Organic waste are contributed as domestic and commercial sewage by food processing plants, Dairy farms, piggeries, poultry farms , slaughter houses , breweries, tanneries e.t c.
Animal excreta discharged into fields or dumped in to pits reaches water bodies through run off and leaching particularly in the rainy season.
2. Industrial wastes:
Waste from Paper Mills , petroleum refineries contain large quantity of harmful Chemicals including acids alkalis and heavy metals are discharged into water bodies.
3. Water containing soaps and detergents discharged from houses & certain factories.
4. Fertilizers and pesticides are washed by rainwater into water bodies and Pollute them.
5. Leakage of Petroleum oil during Drilling & shipping operations into water bodies and pollute them.
6. Discharge of hot water from industries and thermal plants into water body changes the normal temperature of the water and reduced the oxygen content and kills aquatic animals.

The discharge of water from homes industries, hospitals, etc.into the river pollutes this fresh water source
