Kabir was found by a Muslim weaver Niru and his wife Nima, abandoned on River Ganges.
As he grew up, he took up weaving, like his foster father, as his profession.
He always had a bent towards religion and God. But he believed that they were neither found in Mosque or Temple, nor in Mecca or Benaras, rather Allah or Rama, were to be found in the heart of a devotee.

Sufism is a significant religion in India, hence it is taught at the secondary level. As a result, almost every student in India is aware that the sufi saint Kabir was a weaver.
The Sufi Saint Kabir was adopted by a weaver couple, and he eventually followed in his foster parents' footsteps. He was noted for his enlightened ideas, which he expressed in lyrical couplets. He questioned Hindu and Muslim religious practises and spoke about actual religious knowledge and teachings. He was accused of blasphemy, yet no one could doubt his sincere teachings because everyone could relate to them in some manner.
