Answer:

Soldiers volunteer to put themselves in harms way, anywhere in the world, and give up their personal freedoms. All to serve the Goverment, which represents the people(in theory).

Farmers work VERY hard everyday to provide food for factories and stores. Factories and stores that serve the people.

Both groups work hard, serve a middleman that “helps" people. Both intentions get bent by the middleman. Who serves the people more?

This is a tie. And heartbreaking.

If you want to compare quantity of work, its no contest. The farmers work harder on average over a decade. Soldiers work harder than anyone alive for short periods and then do busy work or training the rest of the time. My unit ran multiple missions a day for a few months of that deployment. Occasiomally I would work harder than anyone you know for a couple of hours.

Farmers win this one I think.

Finally, if you want to measure service by sacrifice/potential loss…

Soldiers risk their lives. Literally. Worse yet, they risk mutilation and a life of physical pain.
