Yes, I absolutely think that it's really important that a child read regular, it is said "Regularity is the key to success ".

If a person wants to servive in this universe,he has to do his usual works and take responsibilities this will make the child responsible And self-conscious. Not only for studies, even if the child want to be dancer or a singer then he also has to be regular in his practice, as it is said "practice makes a man perfect'".
