Answer:

We can say that Mail trains are not as important as they used to be as we have developed more efficient modes of transportation in air and the introduction of Electronic modes of communication has made offline mails much less prevalent in modern society.
Today's postal trains do not always carry mail, but many still carry mail, some of which are actually quite slow, but many retain their names as denominations a few years ago.

Explanation:

Originally, the postal train was a train that actually carried mail between terminal stations and intermediate stations under a special contract with the post office. In many cases, this is the only reason  these postal trains ran, and some of the famous postal trains were at high speed and punctuality, as planning was much prioritized over all  other trains on the route, getting a good reputation.

In British times, it was almost unthinkable to deliberately delay a postal train to allow another train to pass. There is also an anecdote that during World War II, mail was prioritized over the coveted army and material trains. As a rule, trains departed in the evening after the daily post office closed.

Many famous routes introduced the first postal  trains  and subsequent express trains. On the contrary, today, there are many trains that carry mail without being called "mail".
