Electing a president for an organization or for a country or state for life is perhaps not very good in the contemporary times.

The conditions economic, political, social, industrial etc. of a state are changing rapidly in these days. The policies and laws need frequent updates.  If one person is chosen for life (long duration) then perhaps that person may not be able to serve with quality, efficiency, adaptability and correctness of action to the context and requirement, during the entire life term.

Thus having a chance to elect a president periodically gives a choice to people to choose a person of their interest and trust.  If the previous person is good, and trustworthy for future, then people could reelect the same person for the next term (of 4 - 6 years).

Further it is possible that one person leading the state could bias the country in one direction, or could be biased in some way.  In current times with a diversity of religions, castes, economic statuses elections could be important and perhaps necessary.

Also, the president is the head of the state and maintains international relations with powerful and weak nations.  So it is required to choose very intelligent, knowledgeable, experienced, charming, influential, widely accepted person as the president.
