The boys had no one else other than Lucia to call their own. They had lost their parents as well as their shelter at a very young age . Therefore to cope with their loss , they willingly looked after Lucia who was their only living family member.

Yes the boys greatly looked for their sister LUCIA. The two boys Nicola and Jacopo were hardworking , responsible, serious and determined. The war had not destroyed there hope n desire .
They worked day and night to meet the expenses of treatment of her sister who wS suffering from tuberculosis of spine.
They polished shoes, sold newspapers and fruits, etc.
They resolve to build a new life for themselves and their sister.
The two boys not only add dignity to an individual's life but they give a new hope for humanity
