no I don't think the punishment given to convict was right because seeing his n his wife condition he was convinced to do soo(stealing). n for stealing the punishment for tht much period is not correct....

I think, the punishment given to the convict was not justified, he was not a habitual criminal. He had no money and had to steal for food for his ill wife. He was sentenced for 10years in prison hulks. He should have been left of with a mild-fine punishment. The convict was a runway prisoner ,if he reach to Paris which was a large city he could have been lost there and the police could not find him.
