The Ideal Examination System
Ever since smart phones have invaded the student kingdom our examination system has turned into an absolute farce.
Thanks to all the search engines students have to just click the magic search button and lo and presto, answers are there in a jiffy.
One may definitely argue that how does a student gain access to the phone during an exam, well it is the smart generation after all!
Our Education system suffers from a void right from the day it was created. It is more theoretical than practical.
May it be the objective or subjective pattern it does not help evaluate the true potential of students.
It tests only the bookish knowledge of a person, there is no place for creative knowledge, logic or rational thinking.
For example a student of Literature who takes the NET exam is tested more on the historical and pedagogical knowledge with no scope to reflect literary skills.
Similarly the Board Exams set up a bunch of hackneyed questions which students have already rote to memory from the previous years' question papers.
The examination system is also based on a one time performance which does not and cannot justify the true potential of a student.
An ideal examination system is one that scales a student rationally. Ample amount of elaboration and explanation of subject related questions have to be conducted through viva and written forms.
Conceptual questions have to be asked whose answers are not given in guide books.
Then and only then can the true potential of students be evaluated.
