You have to know that impulse are carried away by special mechanisms called as :-
(1) Reformation.
(2) Deformation.
(1) Reformation :=
as you know that , sodium ions are concentrated around the cell body of neuron i.e. around the cytoplasm of neuron.
The plasma membrane of neuron is impermeable to these Sodium ions. But by the means of special organic compounds ( as well as inorganic Hormones ) , the Sodium ions enter the neuronal cytoplasm.
this process is called REFORMATION.
(2) Deformation :=
Neuron cytoplasm works on the radicle mechanism i.e. it promotes negative charged anions inside it.
But when the Sodium ions enter it , the cytoplasmic metabolism gets disturbed.
So , to induce this metabolic rate , Potassium ions are actively diffused out of cytoplasm.
this process is called as Deformation.
# The nerve impulses are transmitted on the basis of ion exchange in and around neural cytoplasm i.e. Reformation and Deformation.
The transport of ions ( ALWAYS ) requires energy which is given in the form of ATP molecules.
So we say that , ATP are required for the transport of neural impulses in humans.
