Well the short answer can be NO, there is more to the whole thing. For example, as a kid, we actually do judge wealth as a symbol of social status and high rank, but even if you are not extremely wealthy, people judge you on the basis of your education or occupation.
For example a teacher is thought of as more educated than a shop-keeper, or a doctor is more respected in their community than for example an accountant.
Obviously, it is possible the shop keeper makes more money than the teacher or the accountant makes a little bit more than the doctor, but for the general society will have their own perceptions.
Of course, extreme wealth can supersede this, e.g. a chartered accountant at an international firm driving a mercedes benz and a doctor going on a bike, there is a difference, but the point is wealth is not the only basis for social equality.
In India, race and religion plays a big role in how people are brought up and received in the society. People have reserved seats and even jobs based on their caste.
However, lets look at a country like the US. If you are an Indian millionaire visiting the US you will NEVER have the same rights as an Indian who is an American citizen.
So yea, there are many factors

Economic equality would go a long way in bringing about social equality if social barriers are broken down, access to education is equally provided to all sections of society and no discrimination is made anywhere or at any time on the basis of language, religion, ethnicity and so on.By itself, economic equality cannot bring about social equality.
