Although there is an increase in mass of the body, this increase is too small to be observed and thus the change in mass is not considered.

- When a body is charged, there is an addition of electrons in the body.

- So theoretically the mass of the body should increase due to it.

- But in practice, the mass of an electron is very small to be observed.

- Hence, addition of electrons will not affect the mass to a great extent and thus the mass can be considered as unchanged.

No. Charging a body doesn't alter the mass of the body.

Explanation:

  • Let us understand what is charging. It is processed in which electrons are transferred into a body. The charge is either a positive or a negative charge.
  • Electrons do not carry a weight with them. They only carry an electrical charge with them.
  • This electrical charge does not increase or decrease the mass of the body.  Consider charging your mobile: Does charging increase the weight of the mobile phone. Obviously no. The same rules follow.
