Though Maddie always stands behind Peggy and the girls doing something else but she emerges from the shadow of Peggy in regard of her attitude towards the treatment of Wanda.
But Maddie never stood up for Wanda in the presence of the girls . She didnt like the girls teasing Wanda . Not because she had felt bad for Wanda but because she felt that the girls would make her next target .
When Wanda left Maddie was the one who felt really bad. Maddie was not courageous for the first instance. She wrote a note to peggy asking her to stop teasing Wanda but due to her lack of courage and because she thought she would lose her friendship .
Moreover , since Peggy was the most -liked girl in the class ,Maddie thought that Peggy would possibly do nothing wrong.
But Wanda's shifting changed Maddie a lot. She cried for nights and everyday before going to bed she would make speeches on protecting an imaginary Wanda and also she promised to herself that in future she wont stand quite if any one is teased because of their peculiar name or the because of their poverty
