Interphase requires more energy during cell division due to the process of DNA replication. If a metabolic inhibitor such as cyanide is applied to a cell during early stage of interphase, which would inhibit to acquire the sufficient energy for DNA replication and other processes in subsequent phases. Cyanide has ability to stop energy production by blocking the transfer of electron from cyt-c. If cyanide is applied to a cell after interphase then mitotic division will not get affected because of production of required energy in interphase stage of cell division.
