does metals always lose electrons?

YES!

Metals are known to lose electrons. non metals accept these electrons and get reduced. hence metals are known as reducing agents. this property of losing electrons increases as we move down a group in periodic table because the size of metal increases.

I will explain this by taking an example...
Sodium is a metal. it has the configuration of 2,8,1 .
that means there is one valence electron. every element has the tendency to gain a stable electronic configuration (configuration of its nearest noble gas).
so to gain a stable octet configuration sodium loses one electron.

similarly magnesium has configuration of 2,8,2. To attain a stable electronic configuration, it loses two electrons.

hope this helps you ☺️☺️

jaikrithik: why do they always lose electron?
tinaghosh: i have edited my answer to clarify your doubt.... kindly check it
jaikrithik: I like your answer
jaikrithik: but my only doubt is whether all metals loose electrons
jaikrithik: whether there are any exceptions
tinaghosh: yes all metals always lose electrons but the number of electrons they lose varies
jaikrithik: thank you for your brilliant answer
tinaghosh: my pleasure!
jaikrithik: I marked you as brainliest
jaikrithik: bye I am leaving

no matters does lose electrons always matter lose electron when we rub metals due to rubbing the shell of atom becomes weak and in this way metals lose electron
