Narmada bachao andolan or NBA is a social movement constituting of adivasis ,farmers ,environmentalists and human right activists against the large number of dams being built across the Narmada River. The first focal point of the movement was the construction of the sardar sarovar dam. The NBA has been given support by various NGOs. Medha patkar who was the woman behind the NBA undertook hunger strikes and solitary marches across India. She tried to bring this issue into the notice of international organizations such as the World Bank. The sudden up rise of the NBA brought along with it widespread protests from around the globe. The World Bank had sanctioned loan for the construction of the sardar sarovar dam, this widespread protests in India brought up pressure on the World Bank to recheck its sanction on the loan. This paved the way to political unrest in the country. Meanwhile, Political activists attacked the NBA office. This incident was widely condemned by human right activists around the world
