Some people in the "real world" pick up on this resonance, gaining information about the parallel world which they then use to write stories.

Dude it's theoretically possible. According to Einstein's and Hawking's theories and calculations, it may be possible that parallel universes do exist...But dude everything doesn't work according to mathematical calculations.
