Does Remainder Theorem cannot be applied when the divisor is not linear?

The reminder theorem can we apply when the division is not linear.

Ex:

x3+3x-4 is divided by x-1

=P(1)

=1+3-4=0

No. But if p(x) is divided by (x-a) the remainder is p(a).

Eg: remainder when x3+3x-4 is divided by [x-1]

= p(1)

= [1]3 + 3x1 - 4

= 1+ 3 - 4 = 0
