ya it behaves like a magnet
if I take any simple magnet and keep it on a table then u will found that the south pole of the magnet move towarda the north of earth

A freely suspended magnet always point in the north and south direction even in the absence of any other magnet. This suggests that the earth itself behaved as magnet which causes a freely suspended magnet (or magnetic needle) to point always in a particular direction : North and South.
