Yes, there exist such type of equations whose coefficients are rational but their roots are irrational .for eg x²+2x+3 this has irrational roots.
for a quadratic equation ax²+bx+c discriminant will be b²-4ac if discriminant is greater than 0 we get real roots and if discriminant is less than zero we get irrational roots.
