Thinking and language

Explanation:

There are various theories which explain the link between language and thinking

The linguistic relativity hypothesis by Benjamin Lee Whorf stated that language is necessary for thinking and it determines the content.

Piaget explained that thought precedes as well as determines language processes in a child.

Lev Vygotsky stated that thoughts and language are separate entities in a child and only merges when around two years of age in context with the sensorimotor period of Piaget’s cognitive development.

Thought comes first before language. Language is the expression of thoughts. Although language provides a form to our thinking process, thoughts always precede language.
