Statement - Dominance is not an autonomous feature of a gene

The above statement means that dominance characteristic is not always independent of gene. This is true in some cases.

Situation 1:

When a white flowered tea plant is crossed with a red flowered tea plant the colour of the F1 generation is both red and white. So the dominance is not independent of gene.

This holds true only for certain cases like Human blood group dealing with A/B/O groups.

Situation 2:

But when a tall plant is crossed with a dwarf plant the F1 generation produces only Tall plants. So dominance is independent of genes also. So it depends on the nature of chromosomes and the number of genes playing role in it.

Hope this helps!!
