What happened was that the President Yameen dismissed a Supreme Court ruling to reinstate opposition MPs and release political prisoners, and instead illegally launched a state of emergency, suspending even tbe Chief Justice
Also, he has launched a ruling to arrest the CJ and the former President
even the 2013 elections in which he won are believed to be rigged
