Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll and the membranous structures which enable the sunlight energy to be used effectively to drive the photosynthetic process. Leaves however are the most effective organs for trapping sunlight and also for gas exchange, due to their large surface area, therefore they are the parts of the plants where most of the photosynthesis occurs
