Dear fellow campaigners

We are all here to take part in this important mission of conserving our environment. Mother nature has put up with great atrocities from man and has started to strike back out of exhaustion. Her frustration reaches us in the form of global warming. Drought and other natural disasters. Pollution has invaded all aspects of earthly life. The air is polluted with all sorts of gas emissions and other harmful gases that have resulted from the scientific advancement of man. The water has been polluted by industrial wastes and other human waste materials. What about land? It is so much polluted that farming has become next to impossible in many parts of earth. You and I know that this cannot go on for long.

So what do we do? Obviously cleaning! But where do we start? Like every good things it should start from the grass root level. If we wait for the government or other relevant agencies to conduct a cleaning drive, we may not achieve anything in the near future. What if we start the cleaning drive from our houses and spread it to our city? This seems to be the most plausible solution to me.

The city life produces a lot of waste. The flat culture has brought in the practice of dumping the house hold waste on public grounds. During the past each family had a house set in a compound and they had enough space to dispose of their household waste in their own compound. The waste dumps in the city area are often too many for the authorities to handle effectively. The result is disastrous. The waste dumps rot and get infested with vectors of all sorts of diseases. They become the breeding grounds of flies and mosquitoes. It is important that we must chalk out efficient plans to put an end to this. The first thing to do is to spread awareness among the public. The people must know that while getting rid of their waste from their living quarters by dumping it in public places, they are actually courting epidemics.

But then the question arises what to do with the waste. We must go around popularizing the idea of handling the waste at sources itself. Bio gas plants are the most effective methods to do this. The older flats should have individual bio gas plants because they are not provided with such  facilities while the flats were constructed. More recently the builders incorporate community bio gas plants in the flats.

People should be encouraged to use bio-degradable or burnable materials in place of plastic wraps. The plastic culture should be totally replaced with more environment friendly practices.

As students we have to go around spreading the new environment friendly habits. Meanwhile we must make arrangements for cleaning the city of the present mess. We can request the municipal authorities to lend us the pick-up lorries and must initiate the removal of the waste before the rain comes. As this may call for a bit of expenditure, we have to contribute  and request the town's people to contribute small amounts. We have to divide ourselves into groups and go about collecting fund. As we go about, we can spread awareness and the idea of the bio gas plant, among citizens so that the future accumulation of waste in public places can be avoided.  Thank you.
