Dr. Herriot was very much aware of the fact that Mrs. Pumphrey was a rich lady. For the checkup of Tricky, Herriot could have charged a lot of money. But he didn't do any such thing. Instead, he found the main reason behind the sickness and took Tricky along with him. He helped Tricky become fit by cutting his diet and adding exercises to his daily routine. He would have charged Mrs. Pumphrey a lot from the treatment of Tricky, but he didn't do any such thing.

Answer:

In "The Triumph of Surgery", Mrs. Pumphrey owned a dog named Tricki and gave her cod liver oil, malt and Horlicks to eat but it was very lethargic and then when Mrs. Pumphrey took her to Dr. Herriot, he advised her to cut on her sweet food items and when she did this, Tricki became ill and had to be hospitalised.

Initially, Dr. Herriot did not offer the dog any food and only gave her water and gradually the dog started recovering and ate everything that was provided to her.

Dr. Herriot could have charged Mrs. Pumphrey heavily for the treatment of Tricki but he was a duty-bound doctor who valued other's interests more than his own.
