The Perpendicular bisector XY of chord AB passes though point C.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Lets draw a circle of radius 4.2 cm.
  • Mark  a point C as centre (Fig 1 )
  • Measure a radius of 4.2 cm using a ruler and compass (Fig 2)
  • Now we keep the pointed end in the centre point C and using the pencil end of the compass we draw a circle of radius 4.2 cm (Fig 3)
  • Then lets draw a chord AB (Fig 4)

To draw a a perpendicular bisector of AB, we follow the below steps:

  • With A as centre and a radius greater than AB we draw an arc on the top and bottom of AB
  • With B as centre and same radius as before we draw another arc at the top and bottom of chord AB (Fig 5)
  • Lets name the points where two arcs meet at the top of the chord AB as X and two arcs intersect at the bottom as Y.Join XY and this is the perpendicular bisector of AB.
  • On seeing the figure it is clear that the line XY which is the perpendicular bisector passes through C. (Fig 5)

Hence Proved.
