Torrid zone all places located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn experience the vertical rays of the sun, at least twice a year. This region receives the the maximum amount of heat and is called the torrid zone. The word 'torrid' means hot. Temperate zone places outside the torrid zone experience slanting rays of the sun receive less heat. These are called temperate zone. In the Northern hemisphere, the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Arctic circle is known as the North temperate zone. In the southern hemisphere, the area between Tropic of Capricorn and the Arctic circle is known as south temperate zone. Frigid zone Beyond The Arctic circle and the Antarctic circle, is very cold as these area receive extreme slanting rays of the sun. Thus, area are called frigid zone. The north frigid zone lies between Arctic circle and North Pole. The south frigid zone lies between Antarctic Cricle and South Pole.
