  • Its very small in structure which is more or less tadpole in shape.
  • It has mainly three parts - head, middle piece and tail.
  • The capping of the head is called acrosome which has different enzymes that help the sperm to penetrate into the ovum during fertilization.
  • The nucleus contains the haploid number of chromosomes that is 23 in number which is either 22+X or 22+Y . This is placed inside the head of the sperm.
  • The middle piece is a long cylindrical structure joining the head to the tail. The middle piece contents spiral mitochondria that supplies the energy to the sperm to swim across the uterus up to the ovule.
