Explanation:

We know if we connect cell is series its voltage increases,

i.e if two cells are in series then

1.5+1.5=3V

Now, if two cells of 3V are in parallel voltage across them is same.

Hence in order to get output of 3V two cells are connected in series and in parallel with another two cells in series. the advantage of doing so is in series voltage increases.

Here three cells are connected in series.

Explanation:

  • Cells provide the supply voltage to the circuit that it is connected in.
  • Cells provide direct current voltage to the electrical circuit.
  • When two or more cells can combined together, the combination is called battery.
  • Connection of two or more cells are done either in series or parallel.
  • In series connection, electrons flow only in one path and in parallel connection, the flow of electrons gets divided into branches.
  • Cells are connected in series when positive terminal of one cell is connected to negative terminal of another cell.
  • Cells are connected in parallel when positive terminal of one cell is connected with positive terminal of another cell.
  • When we have to increase the potential voltage, cells are connected in series as the voltage is summed up.

So, here let n number of 1.5 V cells combine in series to get 4.5 V.

Therefore,

1.5*n=4.5\\n=\frac{4.5}{1.5} \\n=3

So, three 1.5 V cells are connected in series to give 4.5 V.
