if the number of teams = 11 ;

then

number of matches = $\frac{11(11-1)}{2} = \frac{11*10}{2} = \frac{110}{2} = 55 matches$

Fixtures of 9 teams by staircase method ;

total teams  = 9 ;

Number of matches = $\frac{9(9-1)}{2} = \frac{9*8}{2} = \frac{72}{2} = 36 matches$

In staircase method,

Fixtures are made just like a ladder or staircase. This method is the easiest method because no bye is given to any team and there is no need of the stipulation of odd or even number of teams.

Formula :

The number of matches is given as:

$μ = \frac{N(N - 1)}{2}$

Where,

N = Number of teams

From question, the number of teams is 9.

On substituting the values, we get,

$μ = \frac{9(9 - 1)}{2}$

$μ = \frac{(9 \times 8)}{2}$

$μ = \frac{72}{2}$

$∴ μ = 36 \: matches$

Hence,

There are 36 matches to be done in fixture league of 9 teams .
