- Construct a line AB of length 12cm using a pencil and a ruler.
- Drawn a ray making an acute angle ∠BAX with AB.
- Along with AX, mark-off 8 ( = 3 + 5) points A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, and A8 such that each segment is equal to one another.
- Join BA8.
- Draw a line A3P such that it is parallel to BA8. Here P is a point on the line AB.
- The point P so obtained is the required point, which divides AB in the ratio 3:5.
- The length of AP and BP are 4.5 and 7.5
