Answer:

The line segment of length 7.2 cm and divide it in the ratio 5:3

Or,

5x+3x=7.2

8x=7.2

x=0.9

Hence,

The two segments of the given line will be 5x=5×0.9=4.5 cm and 3x=3×0.9=2.7 cm.

1. Draw a line segment AB of length 7.2cm

2. Draw an arc with any compass angle at centre A. Draw another arc with the centre at the intersection of the previous arc with the line segment, to intersect the major arc.

3. Join A with the newly made intersection. (Img 1)

4. With centre A, mark 5 points A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 such that AA1 = A1A2 = A2A3 = A3A4 = A4A5 (Img 2).

5. Repeat steps 2-4 with centre B, only this time, mark only three points on B, B1, B2, B3 such that BB1 = B1B2 = B2B3 (Img 3).

6. Join A5B3 (Img 4) to get the final output.
