To draw:

Ray diagram to locate the image of a point object O placed in front of an equilateral prism such that its vertex is pointing upwards.

Solution:

\star Follow the steps:

  • First we draw an equilateral Triangle placed on the floor and a point object present on the left side of the equilateral triangle.

  • Incident Light rays from the object will undergo refraction at the first surface to form the refracted ray.

  • The refracted Ray will again undergo refraction at the second surface and deviated towards the floor on the right side of the prism. This ray will be called emergent ray.

  • Extend the emergent ray until it it crosses the principal axis; the point of intersection with the principal Axis will denote the position of the image.

Refer to attached diagram.
