- A rectangle can be drawn with any of the following length and breadth combinations:-
- Length= 1cm, breadth= 8 cm
- Length= 2cm, breadth= 4 cm
- Length= 4√2cm, breadth= √2cm... and so on.
- A square of area 8cm² has to be drawn with a side of 2√2 cm
Given: Area of square = Area of rectangle = 8cm²
To find: Sides of the shapes so that they can be drawn
Solution:
Let the length of the rectangle = l
Let the breadth of the rectangle = b
We know, area = 8cm²
⇒ lb = 8
(length, breadth) = (1, 8), (2, 4), (4, 2), (8, 1)... and so on
∴ A rectangle can be drawn using any of these parameters.
Now,
Let the length of each side of a square = x
We know, area = 8cm²
x² = 8 ⇒ x = 2√2
Side of square = 2√2 cm
∴ A square of area 8cm² can be drawn keeping the side as 2√2cm.
