When electric current is passed through water, It decomposes to give oxygen and hydrogen.

Reaction :

\sf 2H_2O (liq.) \xrightarrow{Electricity}} 2H_2(g) \ + \ O_2(g).

• When The electric current is passed through water (H2O) then it decomposes to give oxygen gas and hydrogen gas.

• Water is the best conductor of electricity.

• Water is good conductor of electricity, therefore we are told not to touch circuit, switch and electricity boards when our hands are wet or we are standing on wet surface.

• The good insulators are rubber, wood and plastic.
