Estimating area of the circle using graph:

  • Draw a circle of radius 3 cm on a graph sheet.
  • Count the number of full squares inside the circle.
  • Number of full squares = 16
  • Count the number of squares with more than half area.
  • Number of such squares = 8
  • Count the number of half squares.
  • Number of half squares = 8
  • Now, area of circle

                      =  16 + 8 + (8/2)

                      = 24 + 4

                      = 28 cm^{2}

Finding area using formula:

                       r = 3 cm

                    Area = \pi r^{2}

                             = (22/7)(9)

                             = (3.14)(9)

                             = 28.26 cm^{2}
