Native to North and South Carolina, U.S., the Venus flytrap is a small flowering plant whose "traps" are made of nearly circular lobes at the end of each leaf. These snap shut when its tiny sensory hairs are stimulated by an unwary bug. The glands on the leaf surface then secrete a red sap that takes about 10 days to digest the insect.

Found in parts of Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, the waterwheel plant is termed "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The free-floating aquatic plant uses snap-trap mechanism to capture small aquatic animals. It consists of two lobes that enclose the prey as soon as it comes close.

Mostly found in bogs and fens, a butterwort attracts insects using a sticky fluid secreted by its glandular leaves. Once the prey is trapped, the leaves slowly curl around it and the sticky hairs on the leaf surface secrete enzymes to digest the prey and absorb the essential nutrients. This plant is largely found in the northern hemisphere, from Siberia to North America, as well as Central and South America.
