  • Neuron is basic functional unit of central nervous system.
  • Neurons can be divided into -
  1. unipolar
  2. bipolar
  3. multipolar
  4. pseudounipolar

# Unipolar neuron -

  • Unipolar neurons have only one neurite extending from their body.
  • They are present in embryonic nervous tissue.

# Bipolar neuron -

  • Neurons having axon at one end and dendrite at another end are called bipolar neurons.
  • Bipolar neurons are present in sensory organs like cochlea, retina.

# Multipolar neurons -

  • Neurons having multiple dendrites are called multipolar neurons.
  • Most motor neurons in CNS are multipolar.
