Explanation:

The human digestive tract or alimentary canal starts from the mouth and end at anus. The length of alimentary canal is about 30 feet or 9 meters. The alimentary canal shows 4 layes(from outermost to innermost) -a.serosa b.muscularis c.submucosa and d.mucosa.The thickness of these layers varies according to their location.for example oesophagus has the thickest layer of submuscosa while the rectum has the thinnest.

The muscularis layer is made up of inner circular and outer longitudinal smooth muscle which helps in peristaltic movements.

some finger like projections are found in the stomach and small intestine which help in the absorption of food. These projections are called as villi. The villi also possess microvilli which helps in increasing the absorption surface. The simplified food particles are absorbed by these structures and ultimately through blood it reaches to the tissues where these food particles are utilised.
