Given :  line ab. 12 centimetres long.

c on it such that ac is 2/3 of ab.

d such that ad is 1/4 of ac

To Find : what fraction of ab is ad?

Solution:

ab = 12 cm

ac  = (2/3) ab

=> ac = (2/3) 12

=> ac =  8

ad = (1/4)ac

=> ad = (1/4)8

=> ad = 2

=> ad = 2 * 6 / 6

=> ad  = 12 / 6

=> ad = ab/6

=> ad = (1/6) ab

Step 1 : Draw a line ab = 12 cm

Step 2 : Draw an acute angle at A on ab

Step 3 : Stating from A using suitable compass width  take 3 point one by one .

Step 4 : join 3rd point with b

Step 5 : draw a line parallel to line drawn in previous step passing through 2 nd point and intersecting  ab at c

ac = (2/3) ab

Use same procedure ac = (1/4) ad

ad is (1/6) of ab
