Draw the pattern of magnetic field lines through and around a current carrying loop of wire. Mark the direction of (i) electric current in the loop (ii) magnetic field lines. How would the strength of magnetic field due to current, carrying loop be affected if- (a) radius of the loop is reduced to half its original value? (b) strength of current through the loop is doubled?

(a) the radius of the loop is reduced to half its original value would be the strength of the magnetic field due to current.

  • To understand this concept, let us take a current-carrying loop, when the electric current is passed through the loop or the wire there is the formation of the magnetic field.
  • When the wire carrying current is said to be a straight wire, the direction of the magnetic field is said to be circular but when the current wire is in circular shape then the magnetic field lines are straight as shown in the picture.
  • The strength of the magnetic field depends on the radius of the loop. When the radius has reduced the strength of the magnetic increases.
