(2)since the length is 10.3 cm, we measure 10.3 cm using ruler or compass.

(3) now keeping the compass open the same length. we keep pointed end at X  and draw an arc on line l.

(4) so the required line segment is XY = 10.3 cm

steps to draw perpendicular bisector:

(1) given line segment XY

(2) now with X as a center , radius more than half of XY,draw an arc on the top and bottom of the XY.

(3)now, with Y as a center and same radius, draw an arc n top and bottom of the XY.

(4)where the two arcs intersect above XY is point C and where the two arcs intersect below XY is point D .

(5) CD is the perpendicular bisector of XY.

now,

where CD intersects XY is the mid point of XY.

so, M is the mid point .

therefore ,

MX=MY

hence,

MX is half of XY
