● Structure of nephron -

  • Nephron is the structural & functional unit of kidney.
  • Microscopic structure of nephron shows -

1) Glomerulus

2) Proximal convoluted tubule

3) Descending loop of Henle

4) Ascending loop of Henle

5) Distal convoluted tubule

6) Distal convoluted tubule

  • Excretion is a process by which metabolic waste is eliminated from an organism.
  • Urine formation involves following steps -

1) Glomerular filtration -

  • Creates the plasma-like filtrate of blood in the glomerulus

2) Tubular reabsorption -

  • Returns useful solutes from filtrate to blood

3) Tubular secretion -

  • Removes additional waste from blood to filtrate
