Drona was an ideal guru. He taught as per the capabilities of the students. It is his character that a teacher should impart.

Eklavya was the son of a poor man. He wanted to learn archery from Dronacharya but he doesn't accepted him as a student because he wanted that only Arjun should be the best in archery. so he asked him to sacrifice his finger. And Eklavya has accepted him as his guru so he can't refuse him. so he is being meticulous and sacrificing student.
