It depends on the amount of sugar poured. If a high amount of sugar is poured ,then chances are huge for attracting ants.



Ants sense sweet smell through their lateral appendages. i.e.,their antenna.


Ant can sense sweet smell very effectively with in 20 meters.

Then this ant releases a certain type of chemical stating that there is sugar or something sweet substance near.



when any other ant identifies this chemical and it too releases the sweet smell chemical.



so, when more no.of ants identifies this chemical smell and releases it's own signal stating that sugar is near.


The signal (chemical) concentration in creases. so,ants can easily identify sugar.






Ants may take approximately 2-10 minutes to identify sugar when it is exposed to air.
