Let Capacity of Drum = X litres.

Initially, Drum was 3X/4 part filled.

30 litres oil drawn then it become, 7X/12 part.

Now, according to question,

3X/4 - 7X/12 = 30

(9X - 7X)/12 = 30

2X = 360

X = 180 litres.

Given :-

  • A drum of petrol is 3/4 full. When 30 L of oil is drawn out from it, it becomes 7/12 full.

To Find :-

  • Capacity of the drum.

Solution :-

  • Let the capacity of the drum be x L,

\qquad ❄ It's given, when 30 L of oil is drawn out from it, it becomes 7/12 full. Seems that before drawing out 30 L of oil, the drum had 3x / 4 L of petrol.We have to solve this Using Algebraic Expression!

According to the question :-

\purple{\qquad\quad\tt ↠   \dfrac{ 3x }{ 4}   -  30 =\dfrac{ 7x }{ 12}}\\

\qquad\quad\tt ↠   \dfrac{ \bigg(3x - 120 \bigg) }{ 4 }= \dfrac{7x} {12}\\

\qquad\quad\tt ↠  3x - 120 = \dfrac{7x }{3}\\

\qquad\quad\tt ↠    9x - 360 = 7x\\

\qquad\quad\tt ↠    9x - 7x = 360\\

\qquad\quad\tt ↠    2x = 360\\

\qquad\quad\tt ↠ x =\cancel{\dfrac{360}{2}}\\

\purple{\qquad\quad\tt ↠    x = 180 \: L \bigstar }\\

  • Hence, The capacity of the drum is 180 L.
